When you run After Effects, you could receive messages like, 'Unable to allocate 0.000 MB of memory' or, 'Unable to allocate 0.002 MB of memory.' It can be a project-specific issue or a system configuration issue. The after effects version you are using is the not up to date. You should update it to 11.0.4. Many bug fixes, maybe even the issue you are facing. Whatever release you are using - ALWAYS use the most updated version of each release.

Allocate more RAM in After Effects

Ram preview in After Effects uses your computer’s RAM to store rendered information and holds it until your next render. This takes up a lot of room on your device and can slow down your processing. The best way to avoid this is to free up your RAM and purge the RAM previews. Under the “edit” menu, there is a “purge” menu that you can use to either purge all of the memory at once, or you can choose specific areas to purge such as “Image Caches” and “Video Memory”

Collect files

If you need to share a project with another designer or move it to another computer, you will need to gather all of the assets. Under the file menu you will see the dependencies menu, then there is the option to Collect the files. When you click on “collect files” After Effects creates a folder with the project file and all of its assets. This collects the project in one spot making it easier to share.

Composition settings

The most widely used aspect ratio for videos is 16:9 ratio, but in some cases such as digital signage, banners and email blasts you might need to make a custom canvas size. Under the composition menu, there is an option for composition settings where you can change the pixel height and width. There you can also change the frame rate and the length of the composition.

When you run After Effects, you could receive messages like, 'Unable to allocate 0.000 MB of memory' or, 'Unable to allocate 0.002 MB of memory.'

Unity Could Not Allocate Memory

Try to reduce the amount of memory allocated to other applications:

1. Select After Effects CC > Preferences > Memory.
2. Change the RAM reserved for other applications and click OK.




Purge Memory and Disk Cache:

1. Select Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache.
2. To delete all the files from your disk cache, click OK.
   




Another way to clean Media and Disk cache is:

1. Select After Effects CC > Preferences > Media & Disk Cache.
2. In the Preferences dialog, click Empty Disk Cache to clean disk cache and Clean Database and Cache to clean media cache.
   




If Mercury Transmit is enabled, disable it in Preferences > Video Preview.




Switch Ray Tracing to CPU:

1. If you have used Ray Traced 3D Renderer, select Preferences > Previews.
2. In the Preferences dialog, click GPU Information and switch Ray Tracing to CPU.
   




Remove any third-party plugins.

Create a pre-comp of the existing composition. To create a pre-comp, select all the tracks in the timeline and right click. From the drop-down menu, select Pre-compose.

Reset preferences for After Effects. Make sure that After Effects are closed in your machine (while following the steps).

MacOS

1. Go to your desktop and click GO on the Menu bar.
   
2. Select Go to Folder from the drop-down and type the following path: /library/preferences/adobe
   
3. From the list of applications, select After Effects and rename it as ’After Effects1’.
   
4. Go to Documents folder in your computer and open the folder named Adobe.
   
5. In the Adobe folder, rename the After Effects folder as ’After Effects1’.
   

Windows

1. In the Run command (Win key+R) dialog, type %appdata%.
2. Open the folder named Adobe.
3. Rename the After Effects folder as 'After Effects1'.
4. Close the window and open Documents folder.
5. In the Adobe folder After Effects folder and rename it to 'After Effects1'.

Check the composition creating issue:

1. Create a blank project.
2. Turn on Caps Lock and try to import the faulty project.
   
3. Open compositions one by one and toggle Caps Lock to check which composition is creating issue.
   

Ensure that the Illustrator files are offline or try to convert the Illustrator files to Shape layers.

If you have used multiple display cards, disable one of them.
